Things to do at the V&A Waterfront
The Victoria and Alfred Waterfront is arguably one of Cape Town's biggest tourist attractions. Nestled within the midst of the harbour, the V&A Waterfront boasts an array of entertainment facilities, shopping outlets, fine dining restaurants and 5-star accommodation all within a stone's throw of each other.
The V&A Waterfront is a gateway to many other attractions in and around the vicinity and with so many options to choose from, it's basically impossible to do all of them in one day. Therefore, we've narrowed down the list to help save you time whilst ensuring you get the most out of your trip.
V&A Market on the Wharf
Housed in the Waterfront's old power station, the V&A Food Market is home to over 50 stalls with a diverse range of tastes from around the globe.
Burger lovers will want to try out Woodies Burgers, home-style burgers served in various styles but be warned; their burger is a mouthful. If you're feeling adventurous we recommend the Triple Stack, it's a fan favourite and one of their signature burgers.
The Creamery's handmade ice-cream has taken Cape Town by storm. Their honest-to-goodness approach has them sourcing ingredients that are grown locally and produced in a way that is kind to the environment and to animals. With a range of classic flavours from Peanut Butter to Sea Salt Caramel and seasonal flavours like Pistachio and Toasted Coconut, there's enough awesomeness to have your taste buds jumping for joy.
Bubble Tea is a refreshing drink in the form of a fruity tea or a non-dairy milkshake tea that's delightfully delicious. If you're not a fan of tea, don't worry, the Bubble Tea Company also have a selection of smoothies, slushies and flavoured coffees.
The V&A Market on the Wharf is opened Monday – Sunday and from the 1st of June – 31 October from 10:00am - 17:30pm (winter season) and from 1st of November – 30 April 10:00am – 19:00pm (summer season).
Sights and Sounds
The Two Oceans Aquarium
The southern tip of the African continent is the meeting place of two mighty oceans, the Indian and Atlantic Ocean, the inspiration behind the naming of the Two Oceans Aquarium at the V&A Waterfront, the first of its kind for the City of Cape Town. The Aquarium also has a touch pool if you're a sea-lover and would like to get up-close and personal.
For the adventurous (and for those that have a scuba licence) the Two Oceans Aquarium also offers the opportunity to go diving with the ragged-tooth shark and shoals of large predators. For the rest? Penguins, fish and all sorts of critters from under the sea, as well as a whole lot of fun facts to keep young and old entertained during their visit.
The Springbok Experience
The Springbok Experience Museum offers visitors a world-class interactive journey through the fascinating story of South African Rugby whilst honouring “The Greats” of the game. The Springbok Experience features more than 64 audio visual monitors, an interactive ‘Springbok Trials' skills test for children and adults as well as a Flagship store. Open from 10:00am – 6:00pm, seven days a week, it is a must see for rugby players and supporters and an educational visit for those that know a little less about the beautiful game.
If you have 3-4 hours to spare then you'll want to get on board with the captain and crew of Tigger2. This offshore experience takes you out of the confines of the harbour and along the Cape Coastline. With Table Mountain and the 12 Apostles as a backdrop, this is definitely the cruise of choice for the ocean adventurous or the hopeless romantics. Oh, and let's not forget the view of the exquisite Cape sunsets whilst sipping some sparkling wine in pure style and luxury.
