The Five Best Car Movies of The Century
Nothing is better than sitting back, relaxing and getting lost in the celluloid world of film. While everyone loves different genres, there is no denying the instant excitement we all feel when watching a good old fashioned car chase. Sometimes they involve just one or two cars, or sometimes an entire fleet – whatever the case may be, car chases are bound to have you on the edge of your seat. If you';re in the mood to watch a movie involving cars and high speed vehicle chases, but can';t decide which one to watch, fear not. We have put together a list of the past century';s top five car movies. Now all you have to do is get the popcorn ready.
Gone in 60 Seconds
Of course, any movie starring Angelina Jolie, Angelina';s Jolie';s blonde dreadlocks, Nicholas Cage and Nicholas Cage';s frown deserves to be on our list. Released in 2000, this movie had everything car-related and more. Car theft, speed and an engaging plot have turned this movie into nothing short of a modern classic. The impressive list of car stars in the movie include a 1964 Bentley Continental, a 1956 Ford T-Bird and a 1990 Lamborghini LM SUV.
The Italian Job - original, 1969
Staring the incomparable Michael Caine, the original movie was a big hit amongst consumers at the time. So much so, in fact, that its legend continued throughout the next few decades, eventually spurning a remake starring our very own Charlize Theron in 2003. The original also included a Mini chase, and featured a soundtrack produced by the legendary Quincy Jones. With cars, a stellar cast and an excellent soundtrack, what more reason do you need to watch it?
Herbie: Fully Loaded (2005)
When Lindsay Lohan was still bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, she starred in this remake of the 1963 classic, Herbie the Love Bug. Miss Lohan starred as a young woman with big racing dreams and a feisty car. Together, she and the car become an unmatchable duo, beating all the odds to come out tops. It';s a feel-good family film that will have you missing the fiery redhead that Lindsay once was.
The Fast and the Furious (2001)
This movie was so popular that it spurned an entire franchise. Starring Hollywood';s buffest boys and most gorgeous girls, the very clever producer decided to throw some cars into the mix as well. With Paul Walker, Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, a Toyota Supra, a Dodge Charger R/T and a Honda S2000 on their side, the filmmakers managed to create something that still has fans drooling for more – even to this day, 13 years later.
Talladega Nights: the Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2006)
This may be one of the funniest movies of all time. If you take Will Ferrell, a little bit of competition and a lot of speed, you';re bound to have a blockbuster. Also starring the like of '90s siren Leslie Bibb and almost-hobbit John C. Reilly, this movie is well on its way to becoming a cult classic. Watch it if you';re in the mood for a good laugh. Or watch it when you need to be cheered up. Or watch it when – actually, never mind. Watch it regardless of how you';re feeling. It';s great fun, and its 108 minutes of running time will fly by.
The amount of time, money and bravery that went into making the above movies was well worth it. Each of them are classics in their own right, with more than enough excitement to keep you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end.
