South African Seaside Getaways.

In Latest News by admin

Sometimes all you need is a break away from the city life, to breathe in the sea air and spend your days soaking up the sun. South Africa has so many options when it comes to coastal holiday destinations and some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. So here’s a quick roundup of some of the best spots:

Paternoster- West coast

Just a 2 hour drive up the West Coast from Cape Town and you’ll find this delightful little seaside village that is the perfect place for those seeking to escape the big city. This little haven by the sea has managed to retain its old school “fishermen village” charm that has made it the popular destination it is today. Paternoster’s 8km of unspoilt sand makes it the perfect spot for the most magnificent sunset strolls that should definitely be accompanied by a fresh seafood dinner at the well-known Voorstandt restaurant. During the day you can enjoy the beach, go wandering in and out of the little shops and galleries in the town centre or simply put your feet up and relax. It’s the perfect spot for those seeking a peaceful care-free getaway.

Endless beach for walking, swimming and enjoying the seaside.

Plettenberg Bay-Western Cape

Plettenberg Bay is one of South Africa’s top holiday destinations and it’s easy to see why with its spectacular coastline, wealth of activity options and amazing holiday atmosphere. Plettenberg Bay lies almost on the border between the Western and Eastern Cape and for those thrill seekers, a short trip on the N2 towards Port Elizabeth will take you to the Bloukrans Bridge where you can bungee jump off of Africa’s highest bridge. Apart from this Plett boasts some of South Africa’s best beaches being home to 4 International Blue Flag beaches and is the perfect family-friendly spot to spend your summer holidays where the kids can play about in the lagoon while parents relax and enjoy the stunning views on offer. There are plenty of accommodation options no matter your pocket or preference. Whether you’re looking for water sports, hiking, abseiling or animal sanctuaries Plettenberg Bay is sure to keep the whole family entertained.

Jeffreys Bay – Eastern Cape

Jeffreys Bay, or J-Bay as it is affectionately known, is another firm favourite for South African holidaymakers. With your pick of beaches to choose from this small town is a surfers and beach-lovers paradise with an endless summer atmosphere where beachwear all day every day is the norm. If you’re planning on visiting during December/January be sure to book well in advance and maybe plan a surfing lesson at Dolphin Beach. For those who are already well acquainted with the waves you can experience the best right hand point break in the world that finds thousands of surfers flocking to J-Bay every year. Here you can try your hand at some water sports, scuba diving, boat trips, mountain biking and so much more or just simply soak up the sun on the beach where you might be lucky to spot some dolphins on the horizon. If you manage to peel yourself away from the beach for a while, J-bay has some stunning coffee shops, restaurants, curio shops and interesting spots to visit in town. Whether you’re a surfer looking for some action-packed fun, a family enjoying the holidays or just looking for some down–time J-bay has it all.

Ballito Bay – Kwazulu-Natal

A 40km drive from Durban and you’ll find yourself in Ballito on the Dolphin Coast of Kwazulu-Natal. The shallow, warm waters of the Indian Ocean make Ballito a hotspot for dolphins and you’ll be able to spot them all year round. It’s also a wonderful place for snorkelling, exploring hidden pools with a rich array of sea life and is home to 2 blue flag beaches: Willard Beach and Clarke Bay. The warm subtropical climate may leave you wanting to go nowhere but the beach, but if not Ballito has lots on offer with a thriving nightlife and an array of family-friendly activities. Ballito Bay is definitely the perfect spot if you’re looking for a family getaway.
