There are several options for shopping in Cape Town but a very cool way to buy your articles is to go to one of the big shopping-malls. In this article I highlight two of the best shopping-malls in Cape Town, the „Canal Walk“ and the „Victoria Wharf“. You can buy nearly anything in these „castles“.
It is huge! That’s the most important thing to know about Canal Walk. If you want to experience and see all Canal Walk has to offer, you will need the whole day. The good thing is, that there are over 400 shops which offers you so many possibilities in the shopping center, but thats probably also the bad thing about it – finding a special shop you’re looking for is not that easy if you have never been there before. You can buy cheap articles but also exclusive and expensive brands like „Gucci“, „Prada“ and so on…
But there are not only shopping abilities in Canal Walk, you can also go to the cinema, have a kart-race or even have a massage.
If you get hungry during your stay in Canal walk that’s no problem. There is a big food court where you can get every kind of fast-food but there are also good restaurants where you can enjoy a fine dinner with a great service.
Kids will love Canal Walk because there is so much to discover. So if you like strolling around combined with a little bit of shopping and eating then this is the place to go!
Canal Walk is definitely worth a day trip during your journey but you should probably go there from Monday to Friday because it is extremely busy on the weekend, especially if the weather is bad.
How to get there:
Canal Walk is located in Century City, 12km from Cape Town. Take your Around About Cars Vehicle and drive along the N1 towards Century City.
V&A Waterfront – Victoria Wharf
With over 450 retail outlets selling everything from fashion, homeware and curios, to jewellery, leather goods and audiovisual equipment, the V&A Waterfront is South Africa’s most popular shopping destination. That refers to the whole Waterfront area but the focus is on the Victoria Wharf.
The Victoria Wharf is like Canal Walk but everything is smaller. So this is the place to go for more relaxed shopping but still with uncountable options to buy anything. It is just clearer than Canal Walk. You still have the opportunity to buy articles in every price category. There is also a cinema in the Victoria Wharf but you don’t have as much options as in Canal Walk but it’s still more than enough.
You can either have some fastfood for lunch or you can sit down in one of the many beautiful restaurants. Enjoy a romantic dinner on a terrace with a spectacular view onto the harbour.
It is not as spectacular as in Canal Walk over here but it’s definitely the better place for relaxed shopping. You can combine this with the other attractions at the V&A Waterfront to have a wonderful day trip for the whole family!
How to get there:
The Victoria Wharf is located directly at the harbour of the V&A Waterfront. It is round about 4km from Cape Town CBD.
