Design Indaba brings the flow of creativity to our mother city! Cape Town becomes the hotspot of innovation, culture and creativity from February 20th until March 1st 2015. The big event will take place in the International Convention Centre and a few other small places and includes a conference, an expo, a music fair and a film festival.
Design Indaba is actually an online publication that hosts an annual festival that showcases world’s brightest talents since 1995. The aim of Design Indaba is to inspire and empower people to create a better future through design and creativity. See below what a great programme Design Indaba organized this year:
EXPO: From Friday, 27 February to Sunday, 1 March 2015 the Design Indaba Expo, shows you some of the accredited local artists. The exhibition is the the biggest and most varied showcase of exceptional locally produced design across all disciplines, including architecture and spatial design, communication design (advertising, graphic design, illustration, publishing), design for social impact, digital design, industrial design, fashion and accessories, furniture, handmade goods, home ware and jewellery. Entry is R80 per person.
CONFERENCE: The conference will be held from 25th until the 27th of February at the CTICC. There will be leaders and design experts from all over the world and will speak about their experiences, achievements and knowledge. This year two of the speakers are the chief creative officer and executive creative director from South African advertising agency Joe Public and the British designer Dominic Wilcox, who is into fine art and design, technology and craft to create surprisingly interesting artworks. But that’s not it – there will be a lot of more really interesting speakers at the conference.
For those of you who can’t attend the event, the conference broadcasts the event via live simulcast to multiple cities at a lower price point to broaden the access to the even.
FILMFESTIVAL: The cinematic festival will take place from the 20 February until the 1 March and will show up to 13 movies on the screen. It starts with the movie ‘Big Eyes’ from master-director Tim Burton and continues with many other inspiring design- oriented movies. The place to be is the authentic Labia Theatre, Cape Town’s oldest independent cinema. Tickets are R50.
MUSIC: Design Indaba Music 2015 showcases a wide range of African talents from 25 to 27 February at the Delegate Clubhouse across the road from the CTICC.
