Two Good Reasons to Use Car Hire in Cape Town

Car Hire Cape TownThere are many ways to get around Cape Town if visiting on holiday but perhaps the most comfortable, convenient and logical is to use Cape Town car hire. The city is by no means a big place unfortunately its geography and lack of public transport make parts of it nearly impossible to traverse comfortably without your own car. There are several sights that should be at the top of your list when visiting Cape Town. Car rental will make visiting these attractions both easy and enjoyable.

The first issue when one arrives in Cape Town via the airport is the fact that it is as yet not serviced extensively by public transport, there is the MyCiti bus this however only runs into the city centre. There are plenty of options for car rental at Cape Town airport though and this is probably you best option. Unless you use one of the many taxi operators available, you must then expect to pay upwards of R250 and you must be prepared to tip. One of the most renowned botanical gardens in the world is found in Cape Town. Car rental is the ideal way to see the natural wonder. Established in 1913 to preserve the vast diversity of flora in South Africa there are now 7000 species of plants in cultivation at Kirstenbosch. The reason this attraction is often overlooked is that it sits on eastern slope of Table Mountain away from the city centre and the main tourist centres. Unless you visit with a tour group in a bus, the only way to get there is by car. Using a guided tour will severely limit your time, which is a crime really considering that you could spend all day in the gardens alone, not to mention the numerous hikes onto the mountain that start at Kirstenbosch. This attraction alone could be the strongest argument for using Cape Town car rental.

Cape Town’s most famous geographical location is also unreachable by public transport and if guided tours are not your cup of tea then this is another firm argument for using car rental in Cape Town. The Cape Point nature reserve is where Africa comes to an end and the Indian and Atlantic Ocean unofficially meet, unofficially because the true southern tip of Africa is at Cape Agulhus about two hours east of Cape Town. It is however far less dramatic and the town there has very little to offer tourists in terms of entertainment so it is hardly worth the drive from Cape Town. Car rental though would give you this option if you had the desire to say that you stood at the point where the two oceans met, the drive is beautiful but it must be said that this might be the highlight of the exercise.

There are many reasons to use car hire when visiting Cape Town if only purely for comfort and convenience, these two attractions though are Cape Town gems and should not be rushed by tour bus. As they are unreachable by public transport and are an absolute must when visiting the Mother City they provide the strongest argument for using car hire in Cape Town.
